In a time in history when even the facts of news are questioned — where do we turn to find eternal truths about the biggest questions of life: Why are we here? What is our purpose in this life? Why must we and all we love ultimately suffer and die? 

Religions propose to hold all the answers — after all the word "Gospel" means “good news”. But we find that their so-called teachings are contradictory, superstition-based, unscientific, even irrational, and ultimately unsatisfying: the ultimate fake news.

Modern science has proven the positive effects of developing a strong and consistent meditation practice in our daily lives. In this talk — and in the following 3-day retreat held at Zen House — our frequent guest teacher, Hyon Gak Sunim, will answer questions and guide us in an experience of traditional Zen practice.

 We will begin with this public talk, and then enter 3 days of silence and formal meditation practice for meeting the ultimate truth of our Original Nature. 

Please bring your questions (and a friend!) to this Dharma Talk for what is always a spirited, even controversial exchange with the wit and wisdom of the Zen masters of ancient and modern times.

Hyon Gak Sunim is a Zen teacher, originally from USA, and educated in literature and philosophy at Yale and Harvard. In 1992 he was ordained monk in the Temple of the Sixth Patriarch, China. He received inka from Master Seung Sahn in 2001, and was appointed by him to assume the leadership of Hva Gye Sah Temple in Seoul, South Korea, where he was until 2007.

He has edited several of Sahn's books, including "The Mirror of Zen" and "Wanting Enlightenment Is A Big Mistake".

Hyon Gak Sunim is a sought-after lecturer throughout South Korea, Asia and large parts of the West. This is his 13th visit to Norway.
